# Haboob (sandstorm)

När jag jobbade i Sudan under vintern hörde jag ofta berättas om dessa Haboob (sandstorm) med regn och åska som uppträder i maj.  Naturligtvis hade jag önskat få vara med om en enda, men det blev tyvärr inte så. Den 29 april så kom en av dom största på flera decennier vältrande över White Nile. Jag fick några foton med email igår och vill naturligtvis gärna dela med mej till er på iFokus.

Thunder and lightning started at 7 pm, just as we were leaving. I quickly went to the car and sat in there for half an hour. The Haboob was massif. Within 5 minutes it was pitch dark, really dark! The car was shaking because of the strong wind. Denis, our country director and others phoned me to make sure where I was. They told me I shouldn't move, but after half an hour there was no difference, so I drove slowly home. Some cars were driving too, but I saw accidents, trees on the road etc. By 8 pm I arrived home and phoned Denis in the car, because it was obvious there was no power in the house. I'll also send you the pictures ". that's what I found!"  At 9.30 the power came back again and it also started raining. According to the locals it's is the worse Haboob since the 90-ties. For sure it has been quite an experience. I am still washing away the dust/sand on windows and fans.

Vilka fantastiska bilder!!! Vilken känsla att se detta stora "sandmoln" komma emot en - mäktigt. Bild 1 och 2 är helt underbara!!
